The Dye Store supplies natural dyes, synthetic dyes, mordants and soap making materials to dyers, makers and small studios across the United States.
We are a family owned business based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and we have been supplying laboratory and craft materials since 2012. The Dye Store grew out of that work. Over the years more and more of our customers were coming to us for dyestuffs, mordants and soap making supplies, and it became clear that side of the business deserved a home of its own.
What we care about
Dyeing is a craft where small details change everything. The same madder root gives coral pink or brick red depending on your mordant, your water and your temperature. Most suppliers sell you the powder and leave you to work it out. We would rather tell you what to expect.
That is why every product page here lists the colour range, the compatible fibres, the mordant you need, how much to use and how to stay safe while using it. If you are new to dyeing, start with one of our kits and work up from there.
Our materials
We supply dyes in 50g, 100g and 250g sizes so you can test before committing to a large batch. Everything is stored properly, labelled clearly and shipped quickly from Michigan.
