About Brazilian Mimosa Hostilis Inner Root Bark Powder

Brazilian Mimosa Hostilis Inner Root Bark Powder (MHRB) from The Dye Store is a premium, finely milled and sifted botanical material offered for natural textile dyeing, artistic coloration and craft applications. Mimosa hostilis root bark contains naturally occurring tannins and botanical pigments capable of producing earthy reds, reddish browns, burgundy-inspired tones and other naturally variable shades. How to use it

  1. Scour. Wash your fiber to remove oils, waxes and factory finishes.
  2. Mordant. Prepare the fiber with the recommended mordant for your fiber type.
  3. Extract. Soak the powder in warm water before adding it to the dye bath.
  4. Dye. Add wet fiber and hold below the recommended maximum temperature.
  5. Cool and rinse. Let the fiber cool, then rinse until the water runs clear.
  6. Wash. Finish with a pH-neutral soap and dry out of direct sunlight.
